Gorilla dog? Mac & cheese on a hot dog? With French's onions? YES!!! Just do it. Don't even hesitate. I'm usually a 'chili dog' person, every time, but I stepped outside of my comfort zone a little this time and am so glad I did. I'll be trying more of Steve's selections very soon!

Took the family here for a late lunch on Saturday. I had stumbled into Steve's a few weeks ago in search of cannolis, because Vitale's Bakery across the street was closed for vacation. Steve's smelled so good that I vowed to come back. The Star Wars memorabilia was a huge draw for the 5-year-old boy. The place was really busy around 1 p.m. Husband ordered the Micho, the boy got a regular hot dog with ketchup, I selected the Veggie Dog (not my usual, but I'm trying a Weight Watchers thing here), and the daughter, proclaiming she didn't like how the place smelled and hated all hot dogs except the ones we had at home, decided on mac 'n' cheese. All four of us got a combo, which means a bag of chips and a drink. The total for a family of 4? Nineteen dollars and change. I declined to leave a tip since there aren't any waitstaff, but that's another rant. When I placed the order, they said the Veggie would take a bit longer. Boy, they weren't kidding. After waiting over 20 minutes, the hubs asked about the status, and the food was out in five minutes. One of the dogs had to be grilled, and apparently this takes a lot longer. A bit too long, in my opinion. Everything was underwhelming. The Veggie Dog was okay, but in their defense, I've never had a Veggie Dog, so I have no idea where it falls on the taste spectrum. I can tell you that all of the toppings weren't on there, but whatever. The hubs also found the Micho to fall into the Meh category. The daughter liked the mac 'n' cheese, but when I sampled it, I prefer mine. The worst dog of all? The boy's regular Steve's hot dog with ketchup. The boy will eat practically ANYTHING, so when he took one bite and spit it out, I had to try it. My initial reaction was that it tasted like a bathroom. By that, I mean some sort of disinfectant industrial disgusting taste. The hubs thought it tasted fine. Bottom line, we can have a lot more quantity and quality elsewhere for the same or less money. How they were able to open a second location and keep this one hopping is beyond me. The staff was very nice and they were hustling. No disrespect to them.

We stopped by Steve's after a day at the zoo and I'm so glad we did. I got a Jamaican Jerk hot dog with cheese and bacon - smokey and a little spicey and so good! Yeah, it was a little pricey but not so bad for a treat. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a gourmet hot dog and there's no other place to go. You get what you pay for. You'll spend less money at Sonic but it's an inferior hotdog. It is a small space so it's not great for large groups and I didn't see any high chairs or booster seats. My son is five and could sit in a regular chair and eat a plain hot dog without complaint but if you have younger kids, it's probably not the best place.

This place is awesome! Super friendly and great value.

Sometimes you just need an awesome hot dog and Steve has them! Like them on Facebook to get $1 off your order with the secret word each day. So Steve's does hot dogs and sausages piled with creative toppings, paired with unique chips ( well at least they aren't ruffles) and sodas (empire black cherry please!). Unless you brought your stretchy pants one hot dog with chips and a soda (about $7) will be plenty of food! On my last visit I got the gorilla mac and cheese. Its a hot dog topped with bacon macaroni and cheese. Yes, its meat stuffed in carbs, topped with carbs mixed with meat. Just try to wrap you head around that one! Or just eat it and ask questions later! Every time I've gone, I don't recall the name but it was the one with baked beans on it. Bonus, Steve has some sweet Star Wars swag to decorate the joint!

As a repeat customer I figured it was about time to update my review and add an extra star, I love this place great food and its owned by Steve Ewing of The Urge. The atmosphere is fun, and decorated with some of Steves favorite things. For those that don't know he is a big Star Wars fan, which is evident if you follow the daily magic word, which will help score you $1.00 off your meal. The food is great, the hot dog buns and hot dogs are all from local suppliers, however the dogs are all smoked before being served. My old favorite was the Gorilla Mac & Cheese Dog, which is a Nathans dog topped with Mac & cheese and fried onions, it's amazing. However it has recently been bumped down a notch thanks to the Storm Trooper Dog, which is a smoked Salsiccia topped with made from scratch Rotini Alfredo, bacon, French's Fried Onion and fresh grated Parmesan! I am getting hungry again just writing about it! Service is top notch, the friendly staff will help you decide and make your dog anyway you like it. Another plus is the soda selection, they offer a variety of soda, however The Empire Strikes Back thanks to the large selection of Empire Soda, which is delicious but I have a feeling it was picked purely for the namesake. Seating is limited, probably about 8 tables inside with an additional 4 outside. You will often see people getting carry out which is what I will do from time to time. On a side note, during Taste of St.Louis a few years ago I had the pleasure of trying a limited item, the Doganoli. Which was a smoked dog, fried in basically a toasted ravioli like batter. It was amazing, the only problem is that its limited to outside events since they do not have a deep fryer in the restaurant. Overall I highly recommend Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill, it's a great addition to St.Louis area, and well worth the drive from wherever you may live. PTMFUS!

Best hot dog I've ever had! At the recommendation of my sister, I tried the Bacon Bacon Jamaican. Hot dog with a strip of bacon, barbecue sauce, slices of yellow pepper, and bacon bits. Yeah: bacon two ways! It was amazing.

I should start this review by proclaiming that I am not a hot dog person. Okay, I said it and that should be fine, unless your a die-hard fan of the wiener. I guess that sometimes I like to have a hot dog and sometimes I'd rather have something else. I shouldn't say that I had a bad time at this place, because I didn't, but there was something missing I guess that would top it over to a 4 star review. The place itself is nice and small, just right down the street from St. Ambrose and across from Vitales bakery in a little place with a few tables and smiling workers that have your order up in a jiffy. I ordered the Gorilla mac and cheese and it was rather good, and there were others in the party that came with me whom got a few of the other items and seemed to love their food but there was something missing. Perhaps I think it would have garnered more stars if they had made their own but they did use nathan's, which are good but it would be more impressive if they were home made, I know that is a big stretch but still! I may come back to try some of the other items on the menu, but I think I'll have to be in the mood to do so!

Hot dog in the city. Runnin' wild and lookin' tasty! (Too obscure? Nick Gilder) Smoked, check. Grilled, check. Hot and juicy in my mouth, check. A bun I don't want to discard, check. Yup, this hole in the wall hot dog restaurant in The Hill is freakin' BOMB. Mos def worth a try. The bf tried the St. Louis-Chicago Dog Huh? Which is: A St. Louis style smoked and grilled dog, dressed with all the Chi-Town goodies, mustard, relish, onion, pickle, tomato wedge! $5.25 / $6.95 combo I tried the Al Hra-BRAT-ski (Bratwurst). Which is: A smoked Hungarian Bratwurst dressed with sauerkraut, mustard and celery salt. $4.99 / $6.99 combo Both were amazing. Great smokey grilled flavor and a good texture. Super juicy with a good amount of toppings. The kraut wasn't too krauty and the STL CHI dog wasn't over done. We both got combos with chips and drinks. They let you pick any drink in the cooler which gives you a wide range from Fitz to Empire. They also have chili, soup, and mac n' cheese that can be ordered as sides. If you love hot dogs, you will not be disappointed. There is even a vegetarian option.

I haven't given many 5-star reviews in my life, but holy cow- this place deserves it. I've never seen a more creative list of hot dog topping combinations. I got the BBQ, which has baked beans, Barbecue sauce, bacon and potato salad. It was hands down the best hot dog I've ever had, and probably contends for one one the best things I've eaten in my life. My husband's had mac and cheese, bacon and fried onions and was also amazing. They also have a great bottled soda selection, and you can grab one with the meal deal! Their seating is limited, but I would probably sit in the alley if I had to- their hot dogs are THAT good.

Really good dog and great roll, but I could not give them five stars because I didn't think it had enough substance to put it into that top category. I ordered the St Louis style with peppers, onions, pepperoncinis, and provelone. I wanted more ooziness from the provelone, more onions, more sloppiness overall to the dog. I will likely go back to try their chili cheese dog.

I believe in 100% honesty in my Yelp reviews, so I have to preface with a few facts & disclosures: 1. Steve is the nicest guy you will ever meet. 2. I did logo design work for both this restaurant & the hot dog cart, so I should be biased, but I promise I wouldn't lie to you. 3. I don't eat beef.* *Scouts Honor, I haven't eaten beef since I was 16. But I did here, and in tube form, no less. I couldn't help myself. Those things being said... I loved Steve's! I think it's a great addition to The Hill area, and I'm so glad I finally had time to stop in when I was in town visiting. A big group of us rolled in on the day after Christmas for lunch, I had the Mac & Cheese Dog (sans-onions) and it was SO good, fresh & hot, and the staff was super nice, helpful & fun. I really wanted to try the Veggie Dog, but it was one of those "when in Rome" moments, so I went for the gold. (Seriously, I'm hoping this isn't my gateway drug). The hot dogs are freakin' huge, so be forewarned. I got about half-way through and I threw in the towel. I also think the prices are right on target for a quality product. It's a small space, but you're surrounded by tons of The Urge's memorabilia, and you can't go wrong with that. Definitely check it out!

The counter staff forgot to fill our order. Took us 30 minutes to get our lunch. The buns are tough, like cheap Italian bread. The hot dogs do not taste like Nathan's, and the toppings are mediocre at best. Nor was the andouille impressive. And on top of that, it's expensive. NYC street hot dogs are infinitely better for a fraction of the price. They're quicker too.

Tried Steve's for the first time for lunch today and it was really good. Being my first time there, I decided to go with a staple -- the Chicago-St. Louis-style dog and it was as good as any in Chicago! They don't serve it on a traditional poppy-seed bun, but the bun was better quality than a lot of the ones I've had in Chicago, so I didn't mind at all. The hot dogs are great quality (Nathan's) and they do a fantastic job of smoking them. I paid $6.50 for the combo that included the hot dog, bag of chips and a can or bottle soda (including Ski, Fitz's, etc.). Good sized-lunch portions at a good price! Definitely would go back! Pros: great lunch place, good selection Cons: (none to speak of)

The service is great. Atmosphere is vintage. And I have never in my life referred to a Hot Dog as amazing until this vary day. Just come and eat.

We rarely go to the Hill, but when we do, I always leave thinking, we should do this more often. We picked Steve's today and it was awesome. My daughter got the hot dog with ketchup and mustard, and she was very impressed with how her condiments were applied. Little Man got the plain mac & cheese and devoured the entire thing. Delicious. I had the STL with bacon, and the hubs had the Pitbull. Everything was fantastic - staff was awesome. We will be back.

  • Dustin W.

Absolutely awesome. Steve is a super nice guy and he's a hot dog genius(is that a thing?) fair prices and high quality. I love the gorilla Mac n cheese dog, it has Mac n cheese, bacon, and fried onions. Very good. I'll be going back whenever I can.

Best hot dogs in town!! You won't find a better place (and believe me, my husband has us doing the leg work). I like it better then the Varsity in Atlanta or Wolfies in town (sorry Wolfies). Celebrate National Hot dog day at Steve's!!

  • JP B.

Been here twice in two weeks...great staff (props Phil)...great owner (props Steve)...and most importantly, great food. Had the beef and salzitza...great. then had the gorilla dog...its outrageous....go get one.

I'm not a hot dog fan, but Steve's is the filet mignon of dogs! I get mine delivered, what a treat for lunch... Try it, you will not be disappointed.

These dogs are delish and the staff is great! Definately a must if you are into dogs! Plus the buns come from a local spot right next door! I keep craving these and need to go get one soon! Plus Steve is a great guy and always makes us feel welcome!

Awesome atmosphere. Took my daughter there and she loved the hotdog with mac and cheese. Steve was so nice. Came out and introduced himself. Love his band so we had to go. Will definitely be back

Easy Summary: This is a must try (again and again)! Food Options: Large Selection (plus vegetarian options) It should be noted while they are do not have gluten free menu items, they will be flexible and use buns you bring in. Service: Always Amazing Atmosphere: Amazing, and sometimes you are lucky enough to have a conversation with Steve who is also very customer service oriented. Price: Don't get caught up in the price and here is why: 1. They offer $1 off coupons per visit if you use any of the multiple forms of social media they support. 2. They subscribe to the punch /loyalty card system. (Eventually you get a free Hot dog no restrictions) 3. You get what you pay for and the selection is here. They have quality food from the dog, bun, and all the toppings. 4. Did you see my section about Service? It is always consistent and the people who work here genuinely care about you and your satisfaction. Let me know how all the workers at dollar menu item fast food chains treat you. Are they always consistent, because this place is.

Fun stop with my boys after the zoo today! My youngest enjoyed the Urge playing do much he got up and danced! Hot dogs were great! Thanks for a fun place to take the kids!!

OK hot dogs I guess, horribly slow service. If you're trying to grab a quick lunch, skip it.

Steve's is an all around good time. Lots of cool deco on the walls to keep your eyes moving if there's a wait. My friend and I were initially drawn in because we are both Urge fans and we had never been to a restaurant that only serves hot dogs. We happened to be there around lunch on a weekday and there was no wait. We both loved our dogs, chips, and drinks but honestly my favorite part of our visit was seeing Mr Ewing make a delivery. He was super friendly when we chatted with him and was busting out the door to deliver some lunch. All in all we had a good experience at Steve's and I would go back in a second.

This unique hotdog place on The Hill is a nice surprise, and good for people who don't want to each a sandwich or go to a sit down place. I've had the Jamaican hotdog (jerk seasoning and bacon on top of it) the Al-Hra-Bratski (sauerkraut and spicy mustard) and the Saint Louis Style (Wrapped in a slice of provolone and topped with peppers). My BF loves the Gorilla Dog, which comes with a bucket load of yummy mac and cheese and fried onions. It's always packed in here on Saturday's, I hope at some point they expand or get a bigger location. Come and you WILL NOT be disappointed

I stumbled in hear an afternoon when my regular deli was closed. Man was I lucky they were closed ha! So what's different? A dogs a dog right. They smoke the dogs first according to the owner Steve who was super nice. Then they boil them the buns are made for them and unlike others they have some heft to them. They aren't a throw away. I had the gorilla Mac n cheese dog. A quarter pound Nathan's dog topped with super good Mac N Cheese, Bacon and frenchs fried onions. I will definitely be back.

My office ordered from here today and I've been hearing about Steve's Hot Dogs for awhile now and have wanted to try it. I ordered "Steve's Famous Chili-Cheese Dog". DELICIOUS. The chili was excellent and I was excited it had a lot of onions on it... i'm a sucker for a lot of onions :) I had anticipated having a hot dog delivered that by the time it got to me the bun would be completely mush. But the bread stayed intact and was not one bit soggy (nothing worse than a soggy bun). AND they deliver! Was a delicious lunch and I will definitely order from here again!

    (5)
  • Brandon P.

Definitely the best hot dogs in St. Louis. I usually go for the Gorilla Mac n Cheese Dog but, occasionally, I'll go for the Stormtrooper which is equally delicious and filling. I also love the drink selection. If you're feeling like a traditional can of soda they have that but if you want to try something different they have a good selection as well. The staff is always very friendly and clearly passionate about what they have going on. To me it makes a difference when you can tell the people behind the counter (or in some cases manning the smoker) are having fun. All of Steve's Urge memorabilia gives the place a very fun local ambiance. I would suggest anyone in the city who enjoys hot dogs go to Steve's.

    (5)
  • Jolena S.

Menus don't get more creative than at Steve's. Combine that with great quality food, combos that feature local made sodas and friendly people and you have an excellent lunch spot. My bf had the Bacon Bacon Jamaican combo with ginger beer and I had the Gorilla Mac n Cheese combo with black cherry soda. I got a bit of his and it was yum, mine was awesome and so filling. I could only eat 2/3 of it. Next time I'm trying the Hawaiian. Be sure to check in with Yelp to get $1 off a combo. There's also a coupon on the back of their menu for your next visit. Support this joint run by a local guy who made good :)

    (5)
  • C F.

Awesome. Stormtrooper and Aye Chihuahua are my favs. They'll dress up a sausage if you ask them too. Example: I had an El Mariachi made using a chorizo instead of a hot dog. It was great.

  • Tickles T.

I'm very picky about hot dogs. This place was okay. I'd be willing to go back and try a few other styles but for the most part this is not a place that I would recommend to someone craving a "designer"hot dog.

    (2)
  • Mark S.

I love seeing a local business thrive, especially one run by the muthereffin Urge frontman Steve Ewing. He was in the store when we visited and talked to us for a few minutes. He's awesome, I want to be friends IRL. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The hot dogs were amazing. But to be fair, anything topped with mac and cheese and bacon will get my seal of approval. I'll be back.

  • Chris Z.

This place is a trip. Basically, take all the goodness of a kick-ass hotdog stand and put it in a brick & mortar setup. They have all kinds of toppings to choose from. And they don't stop at hot dogs. There's also salsiccia, bratwurst, & sausages too. The theme of the place is odd. There's a section dedicated to The Urge (I think the place is run by a band member), a buttload of geeky Star Wars crap, and then some other random concert paraphanalia and band posters. The place was full of a bunch of employees. I think I counted 5 or 6 when I was there. I guess they just hang around when they're off? They were all nice. One dude brought over a sample of smoked, marinated beef for a sandwich he was making. It was really good. On Friday's there is some kind of afternoon specials. 2 dogs, 2 sodas, 2 chips was $9. ...but is it wrong that I still prefer the Dirty Dogs stand at the Brentwood Home Depot?

    (4)
  • Sammy S.

The dogs and wursts are awesome. Especially the Mac n Cheese, Backyard BBQ and Molotov. Skip the Macroni Ave Pit Beef, though. It's undercooked, to my liking anyway, and served cold.

  • Tiffany N.

This place is super cool, will definitely go back. Since we were new, the bf and I each decided to try 2 dogs. We totally loved that with a combo, we could pick any of the specialty sodas. I got the Gorilla Mac & Cheese Dog, which was really good. My love of mac n cheese, however, did cause me to do a lot of eating mac n cheese with bacon and then a mostly plain hotdog... oops. I also tried the Back Yard BBQ Dog, basically a picnic in your mouth. The bf had the "Aye Chihuahua," which tasted okay but was way too spicy for my taste. (Hence why he ordered it, not me.) He also had the Storm Trooper Dog which was pretty much amazing. I don't know why I didn't decide to put random pasta on top of hotdogs sooner. Pros: memorabilia, quick, nice staff, great food Neutral: messy Cons: none

Best hot dogs we've ever had! (And we love good hot dogs.) Creative menu. Great place with super friendly staff.

Unfortunately Yelp won't let me rate this higher than 5 Stars! I can't say enough good about this place! From the memorabilia on the walls to the friendly workers there to the awesome food selections. A side note, the Mac 'n Cheese Dog may quite possibly be the best invention, ever. If you haven't been, don't walk, run there to check it out!

Just moved into town and this is the first place I sought out. Been about four times now and don't plan on stopping. The crew working are consistently friendly and helpful. The hot dogs and sausages are awesome. Smoking them gives them a good additional flavor you don't get most places. I've had about six different styles so far and plan to try all of the rest, but would gladly try all again. Seating is limited, and the place is busy every time I have been. Unique style and atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone interested.

The Mac in cheese hot dog is the best hot dog I've ever eaten! Been there once and will definitely be going back!!

Best hot dogs and sausages I have ever had! The service is excellent, even though it is always busy and a very small place. The dogs are Nathan's and they are huge and very filling, as are the sausages, which I believe are hand-stuffed. Try the Al Hrabratsky and the Chicago dog. Both are sure to blow you away!!!

  • Kathy F.

this place is awesome!! the hotdogs are unique and taste great. its not just hotdogs there's bratwurst, Andouille sausage, chorizo and they use Nathans hotdogs. it is a small restaurant there is outdoor seating. they have several different choices for drinks and chips. there is also lots of the Urge memorabilia on the walls. the music that they play is similar to the urge style of music or point type of music. it is not overpowering you can still have a conversation. they have happy hour every day. best hotdogs in town!!

I have now tried Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill and Steve's Hot Dogs in Tower Grove. The first time I came to Steve's Hot Dogs, I had the Very Very Veggie Dog. It was pretty good, but I was wishing for more veggies. The last time I came, I asked Steve what the most popular hot dog is and he pointed me to the Gorilla Mac & Cheese Dog. WOW....it did NOT disappoint and has raised my review from 4 stars to 5 stars. It was absolutely incredible and came out steaming hot! It was packed with macaroni and cheese, fried onions, and bacon. I'm reluctant to try any other hot dogs now that I have had this one, but yet I feel I must come back and try one of the many other interesting hot dogs on the menu. In addition to hot dogs. Steve's Hot Dogs now serves Mac & Cheese bowls, which also look delicious. There are also craft sodas, such as Fitz's sodas. In terms of the ambiance, it would be nice if the space was bigger. There are some tables inside and a few on the patio. In terms of service, Steve and his staff are extremely friendly and warm. As a final note, if you check-in on Yelp, you get $1 off of a combo. The only downside is that the Hill location closes at 4 PM. Never fear though....the Tower Grove location is open much later (and has a bar next door so you can have a beer with your hot dog!).

Went to Steve's for the first time. Had the chili cheese dog and mac n cheese. Mac n cheese is good and portions are a lil big. Love the flavor of the hot dog. I'm a minimalist when it comes to some foods. The NY Nathans hot dogs are good enough on their own. I plan on going back to get a plain dog with cheese and ketchup. However, my bestie swears by the Back Yard BBQ Dog. I did like the potato salad & real bacon bits on it. Not a baked bean fan though. Very laid back atmosphere, prices won't break the bank, and the whole feel of the place is laid back. It's about $6 for a combo Loved it. Wasn't too crowded at 2pm when all the county people come in for Hill shopping. Only down size is not fountain soda or fresh brewed ice tea. Will return.

Came in on a Saturday afternoon after doing the farmers market. I scarfed the Hawaii 5-0. Pretty amazing. The meal deal is definitely the way to go. They even have Ski! For those of you not familiar with this elixir...its local mountain dew...but BETTER! Its a small place, but on a nice day they have a few outside tables. The only thing I would change was cook up the bacon bits, to give a little crunch to the dog...but that's it. Nutshell: lots of choices, average pricing, nice little pitstop for lunch.

  • Beth K.

Tried The St Louis Chicago Dog today... and it was meh..... The hot dog itself was good, but the assembly of it all was not that great. I don't think i will write this place off the list... I will give it another go and try a different dog. I thought it was fairly priced for the amount of food you get! Not everything can be great..... right?!?!?!?! :)

I walk to the Hill all the time and didn't know this place existed. I went here because a friend took me. I don't normally like hot dogs - at all - but I had the storm trooper hot dog and it was DELICIOUS

  • Jennifer F.

I don't even like hot dogs, but I love this place! The Nathan's hot dogs served at Steve's are cooked to prefection! This little gem on The Hill is sure to please everytime, consistently providing great tasting, high quality food! Dine in, carry out, delivery... However you get your Steve's Dog, just do it! Some of our household favorites include: Gorilla Mac & Cheese, The Storm Trooper, Chili Cheese Dog, Hawaii 5-0 (my hubby adds avacado). Or my dad's favorite, which we have loving named, "The Old Man" a dog wrapped in provelone cheese with a bun. Seriously, I feel you can not make a bad lunch choice here! Get your new favorite for lunch tomorrow!

I ordered the veggie dog combo online, not only was my order 20 minutes early but the gentleman who made the delivery all the way back to the store to get my Doritos that were missing. 10/10 service 100% recommend. And the veggie hot dog was absolutely delicious, best hot dog I've ever had in my whole life.

I'm a big fan of the mac n cheese bowls. They're the perfect size and so delicious! I highly recommend getting the bowl topped with fried onions. The employees are friendly and there's always a great energy. Be sure to check Instagram/Twitter for the magic word!

Wow, just wow. I'm not a big hot dog fan, but this place was amazing. I had the gorilla Mac n' cheese, which I now dream about nightly!

  • Stewart P.

Super friendly people and comfortable interior and good hotdogs (Nathan's), but nothing special to me. I had the St. Louisan and the macaroni and bacon versions and the toppings were of no top quality, just good quality. I do think hot dogs are one of those things that is hard to survive on as a business.

My second visit was today after the London Tea Room. Great place in an awesome neighborhood. There are about 10-15 different combination of hotdogs here. Tasty dogs. Too bad I forgot use my yelp check in for a buck off. Next time.

A hot dog is definitely not just a hot dog. You can tell Steve's takes pride in the meat they use in their dogs and the gigantic amount of options toppings wise is enough to keep you coming back. Let's be clear, this is a place for people who like hot dogs. There aren't any other options, if you don't like hot dogs, then this spot isn't for you. My biggest complaint are that their hours are kinda wonky. They close at 3pm during the week and 5pm on the weekends I believe. I guess the thought here is that nobody eats hot dogs for dinner, and that's fair but for people like me who like late lunches we're screwed. They do allow for online ordering, which for someone as lazy as me is always a positive!!!!

After a long bike ride we decided to stop in for some hot dogs, but what we didn't realize was that these aren't just any dog in a bun, these wieners were big, bold, and flavorful! We tried an original chili dog, a special dog they were having which was a loaded baked potato dog and then we couldn't resist a Mac and cheese bowl! I felt like I had just hit the jack pot when I tasted the first bite of my dog, but then I took a bite of the Mac and cheese and I had won the lottery with that! I would highly recommend trying a Mac and cheese bowl! The workers are friendly, they also deliver and I would take my kiddos there any day! Great experience!

HOT-----DOGS---woo hoo! Okay, look-- heres the scoop, I love hotdogs- and I love unique. The two together- should be heaven... You would think... (that rhymed) I stopped by Steves and this was my second time I ordered the PitBull for it was to be all mine! I noticed the soda stock was a little low- I was sad, for I only drink diet....but to each their own. They need to a little variety in the chips, I say. Only a couple to choose from could ruin your day. Im not quite sure if I am in love with their buns They are a little on the chewy side, if you catch my drift, hun. I need my food to be warm and hot- The beef around my weeny, was anything but. I'll be back to try it again Im always down for redemption, maybe next time they'll win! Please dont ask why this turned into a rhyme It just happened, I guess it was time.

If you're a serious hotdog fanatic, this restaurant will likely excite you, as it's obviously about hotdogs (my daughter enjoyed the Mac and Cheese hotdog). I'm not a huge fanatic, but like them, so I got the regular hotdog. It was fine, fairly basic tasting, nothing outrageously delicious, nor was the atmosphere anything to write home about. It was just, fine.

The staff are awesome, Steve is awesome, and the food is definitely AWESOME! If you're wanting a TRUE gourmet dog on a fresh baked roll, this is the place to go. I came in for the first time today and found my self blessed enough to have come in during TIE Fighter week, which is a juicy cooked to perfection dog, topped with tender delicate corned beef. I was even a couple of cents short for my order and the guy at the register covered me out of his own pocket. Talk about some great customer service on top of delicious food. Get out there this week if you can.

They have tons of hot dog choices, and my friends LOVED the Backyard Dog, but I'm a plain hot dog kind of person. These are 1/4 lb Nathan's hot dogs, and however they cook them, they come out so plump and juicy!!! Really tasty! I'm normally a Vienna Beef fan, but these were pretty damn good! Order at the counter, then find a table, and wait to be called.

I've been coming here several times, sometimes driving all the way from Glen Carbon just to eat lunch here! I can't tell you how many punch cards I've been through. It's usually once a month, or every other month I usually come in here and get the 2-dog combo. I used to get the Gorilla Mac & Cheese and the Molotov all the time, but I have since ventured and tried other things. Those two dogs I mentioned are the best place to start, in my opinion. Sometimes they do have exclusive dogs on occasion. Example: Last year they had a dog with chocolate chili on it. No joke. Sounds disgusting, but don't knock it until you try it! Staff is very friendly, and if you can catch him, Steve, too. Steve's a great guy, as I knew him before he opened up the place. He's always talking about either the dogs, his music, or anything pop-culture. Music in the place is awesome as well. My only complaint is there is no public restroom. But that's how some of those businesses on The Hill are. Best small business restaurant in St. Louis. I hope he plans to open more locations in the future.

I recently had Steve's Hot Dogs and was not happy with myself. How could I have allowed myself to live two miles away and not tried this stuff before? The dogs were excellent. I had the Bacon Bacon Jamaican and a friend had The Micho, the guys cut the dogs in half so we could try each one. The BBJ had 2 slices of crisp bacon, pepper jack, jerk seasoning, bell peppers and sweet chipotle sauce -- Bob Marley would have been proud. No Hot Dog, No Cry. A single hot dog is just the right amount of food, very filling but not overstuffed. I will definitely be back here for lunch.

"The Original" Steve's on the hill. Quick and friendly staff. Drinks are all in a bottle- good selection! Get a $1 off your meal with the word of the day (can be found on Steve's Facebook, twitter or Instagram accounts) the menu is big with several choices. Mac and cheese bowls are a great addition to the menu!

Nothing wrong with the joint. Stopped for lunch with my mom and brother. Walked in, studied the giant menu of hot dog, sausage, and other items, and decided on The Pitbull. A juicy hot dog wrapped in beef brisket and topped with pepper jack cheese, bacon, and bbq sauce. Absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly and didn't get uppity about it being our first time there. Instead the gave us an extra hole punch on our new Steves Hot Dog card, and helped walk out our food to the outside dining area. Overall it was an excellent experience. Great food, great people, neat location. Will be back to try the Macaroni Bowls!

Amazing! The staff at Steve's goes out of rheir way to help you feel welcome, especially if it is your first time. The food is served quickly and staff is nearby to take your trash when you are finished. The hot dog creations are unique and amazing. I had the dog with Mac and cheese, bacon, and fried onions. It was delicious and filling. My sons had the dog with brisket and wrapped in bacon. They said it was tasty and the brisket was tender. Overall, it was a five star experience. We will be back. ...I want to try some other creations.

Great dogs, great service. Will definitely be back for another visit. I had Steve's Famous chili cheese dog. This isn't a typical chili cheese dog. First thing is the franks are ample and tasty. Not like the pencil thin weenies you get at most places. Then there was delicious meat chili with beans, shredded cheddar cheese, and diced raw onion. It is worth mentioning you can also choose sautéed onion. The bun was an amazingly fresh and chewy hot dog roll; I suspect from one of the local bakeries in the Hill. The restaurant was very busy on the Saturday I visited and the staff were very friendly. This is a great little hot dog joint in the city that also delivers. The only negative thing I would mention is the somewhat restrictive hours. I would love to be able to grab a few dogs on the way home from work, but they close at 3 on weekdays.

Nestled among all the Italian eateries on the Hill is a pretty awesome Hot Dog joint. Lots of interesting hot dog options to choose from. Also has Mac & Cheese Bowls. Be sure to mention the "Word of the Day" for $1 off.

Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill is a neat place. On a Saturday afternoon, the line to order went almost to the door, so I had some time to take it all in. The walls are orange and yellow and Star Wars decorations adorn them. Tables seat 2, 4, and 10; there was some outdoor seating, too. Lots of hot dog and sausage options. There are even dogs with Star Wars names. They sell Fitz's and Empire sodas plus sauces and Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill shirts. My companion ordered the Hawaii 5.0 combo, which included a soda and fries. She raved that it was "big, filling, tasty, with meat of the quality of Omaha Steaks" and that "the pineapple tasted great." The employees were genuinely friendly. They must all enjoy what they do. Some of the employees have large, neatly trimmed mustaches, which only add to the whimsy of the place. My companion got two punches on her Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill card because it was her first visit; I believe she gets a combo when she gets a certain number of punches. The place is very clean. It was a little louder than I would have liked. It wasn't exceptionally noisy, but the table of 10 was a gathering of people that included some children. Steve's isn't the sort of place where I was expecting quiet, so that was okay. I had just eaten, so I didn't order the Very Very Veggie dog, but I will go back for one.

Alright, I'm officially sick of bacon. When you're putting it on a hot dog, you've crossed a line. Maybe I'm just a hot dog purist, but when I'm eating random ground animal discards sausaged into intestinal casings, I don't want the flavor of bacon impeding that nirvana. Let's rewind a bit. I've been dying to try Steve's, but all my friends are either vegans the week I want to go there, or are too bourgies to go to a hot dog place. FINALLY one of my friends confessed a desire to go, and I jumped on that opportunity and rode it all the way to the Hill. Steve's seems very out of place on the Hill, but then again, so do I. I feel like Italy is the opposite of hot dogs. Then again, sausages, hot dogs, potaaaaaatoes, potahhhhhhtoes. The interior was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, which was slightly disappointing. It's more of a to-go place, with a few pity tables crammed in for good measure. The giant menu hovers above the counter, and it will take you a good few minutes to read it over (which, P.S., will make you feel creepy as Hell, since the guys working are kind of standing in front of it, and there is no way to avoid it feeling like you are staring at them for five minutes). This place defines overwhelming choices. I seriously could not decide. I'm just gonna be honest, all the options sounded really really gross. I love hot dogs, I love gluttony, I love the mixing of crazy foods, but all I could think of was my dad back on the streets of Jersey screaming at me and knocking a hot dog out of my hand that I had dared to slather with ketchup. Mustard only. I've learned that the hard way from my old man. By the time it was my turn to order, I still hadn't a clue, so I asked what the bestsellers were. I was told Gorillas, a dog with mac & cheese, bacon, and fried onions was the popular favorite. It actually makes sense, when I think about it. Am I the only one whose Friday nights as a child consisted of Kraft mac & cheese with cut-up hot dogs? See? Now my mom's influence in the hot dog department somehow overpowered my father's. The service at Steve's was incredible. Every employee acted like they were thrilled to be alive and working in a hot dog shop. They made hilarious jokes, smiled, and honestly put me in a better mood. Everybody should be taking notes on how this places does service. I half expected a fish to come flying by my head, because it was very Fish Philosophy. The hot dog itself was incredible, as was the bun, as was the mac&cheese. The mac & cheese alone was perfection, the hot dog cooked perfectly and with such amazing flavor, and the bun was soft and hearty. Enter: bacon. Meh. I think the flavor of the hot dog is enough. The added salt of the bacon just... Wasn't a fan. It was really just bacon crumbled on top, not a big deal, but that and the fried onions just seemed overboard. It didn't ruin the dog, and it's great to see a place trying new things, but I really am over the novelty of bacon on everything. A lot of the choices here had bacon, which I'll either avoid next time, or be the high maintenance bitch who asks for it to be left off. Overall, this place is an absolute winner. Not what I was expecting, but if you're in the mood for something different, head here. I can't wait to try their sausage. Oh, and also... CHECK IN on Yelp- $1 off their combo meal. Their combo includes chips and a drink. Normally I love sides, but chips were too much, even for me, with their hefty meals-on-a-bun. The chips I got, though, some sort of New Orleans onion chips, were FRICKING AMAZING, and the sugar cane Empire soda I had made my whole body tingle with pleasure. Steve's. Winning. Can't wait to come back. Honestly. Bonus points for being casual and not overtly hipster.

I absolutely can't believe all the 5-star ratings this place is getting. Perhaps I went on an "off day" (today). My dad and son ordered a chili cheese hot dog and I ordered the St. Louis Style HYAAAH! Dog. First of all, ONE SMALL swipe of chili across each of their dogs was unacceptable. So much so that I had to go up and order a $4, 8 oz. cup of chili for them to pour over the top. My dad also asked for fried onions and they had, maybe one or two small slivers at the top, at best. My hot dog was equally disappointing, toppings-wise. If I'm paying $7 for a hot dog, gimmie some toppings! I should have taken photos because I tell you that I'm astounded at some of the other photos people have posted. Our food didn't look like it even came from the same restaurant. I ended up throwing away 1/4 of my hot dog because by the time I ate the first 3/4 there weren't any toppings left to make it worthwhile. One final note, is that I wasn't crazy about the Nathan's hot dogs being smoked. That was just a matter of preference tough. Can't knock 'em for that.. It would take some coaxing to get me back into Steve's. It left me, my dad and son feeling very 'meh' about the place. Postitive: Friendly staff!

Great place with a wide variety of hot dogs! The staff is quite the nice bunch & the environment is very family friendly. Probably my favorite hot dog place in the city! They offer a perks program & if you go during hot dog happy hour you get half off your order. Try the gorilla mac 'n cheese dog of you go, I highly recommend it!

I love this place. They have the best hot dogs in St. Louis - bar none. Excellent service, Excellent hot dogs - makes for a 5 star review. I have been here about 6 times over the past year and have never had a bad experience. I question the other Yelp reviewers that dine here and than come on Yelp and state in their review "i do not like hot dogs". Than give this place a 2 or 3 star rating. I think this is bogus. To clarify. I love hot dogs. Always have. Always will. Also have thought for many years that St. Louis was missing a dynamite hot dog place. This place fits the bill. : )

The pit bull is the best hot dog I've had in my life so far. That marconi beef wrapped around a hot dog? Wow. I've been there a few times before. The dogs never disappoint. Customer service is always friendly which makes a big difference for me. I would love to frequent here, but I don't think my arteries would appreciate it as much as my mouth and stomach do. Maybe once every season, haha.

I've had Steve's bookmarked for quit awhile, so when the BF said he wanted to go here for lunch I agreed. I'll disclose up front, I am not a Hot Dog eater. Normally, the only time I eat a dog is at a Cardinals game and occasionally in someones backyard. I will start off by saying it is a cute little shop specializing in Hot Dogs. Can you say, Urge. I got a giggle out of the occupancy sign above the front door stating the maximum was 18 people and when I counted the chairs at the tables, there were 22. Which was okay with me, I would have given them 24 or 26 occupancy. The staff was extremely friendly and was really excited to be selling Hot Dogs. She smooth talked us both into ordering the Two Dog Combo for $11.99. We saved a dollar each by showing our check-in on Yelp. When I made a comment and selected the A&W because it was diet. She quickly guided me to the Craft Soda, Empire. Telling me that it was a much more flavorful soda. The bf tried the Sarsaparilla by Empire as well. Both were damn good, now I need to find out where I can buy them by the six pack. From what we were told, Steve hooked up with Vitales Bakery across the street and created his own special Hot Dog Bun. It basically is pizza dough made into a bun for Hot Dogs. Neither of us were impressed with the bun, it was way to chewy. It was also had to cut in to bite size pieces. Many of our dogs were covered in plentiful toppings making it hard to pick up and bite. We wanted so bad to slice them in to eatable bites. I wish they offered an old fashioned bun as an alternative for us old fuddy dud-dies. Doing the Two Dog Combos did give us the opportunity to experience four different dogs. Selecting from the large (16) variety was hard, but we quickly narrowed it down. Steve's Famous Chili - Cheese, St. Louis - Chicago Dog, Crazy Cajun Creole and Bacon - Bacon Jamaican. All four had good presentation in their little red baskets and Steve is very generous with the toppings. The Chili - Cheese was very messy and hard to hand handle. This one for sure, needs to be cut and eaten with a fork. The Chili had a good flavor and can easily stand on its own in a bow. I like the fact that they smoke their own dogs and brats on site, we saw them at work as we approached the entrance. The STL - CHI Dog was a true ballpark frank. I could enjoy this one at a Cardinals and Cubs game. The only change I'd make is removal of the tomato, I'm not a fan of tomatoes. I'd also reduce the amount of onions, to reduce the heartburn. Bacon - Bacon Jamaican Dog, was a disappointment and it had two of my favorite things; bacon and pepper jack. The description said, two slices of bacon and I expected two slices, one of each side of my dog. Instead, it was chopped and on top. However, the jerk seasoning and sweet chipotle sauce was a nice touch. The winner of the four was the Crazy Cajun Creole. A locally smoked Andouille sausage with grilled onions, spicy brown mustard and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. This one I could hand handle and enjoy, but still found the bun to be chewy. If either of us return, I know we will go with simpler toppings. The ones we selected on this visit gave both us heartburn, indigestion and upset stomach. We must have delicate digestive systems.

Best selection of specialized hotdogs in the area. Tried 3 dogs. BBQ, Mac n Cheese, and Saurkraut on cheddarwurst. They use a fresh hoagie roll style bun. Would try all 3 again. Friendly staff. Will be back to fill out my punch card!!!

Anyone that proclaims "It's just a hot dog... how good can it be?" has obviously never been to Steve's. Yes, a hot dog is a hot dog, but Steve's somehow knocks the adage out of the park. After finishing my Bacon Bacon Jamaican, I was no longer shocked when I overheard another customer say that he was eating his 6th hot dog of the week. The place is small and quaint and the people who work there were very friendly and helpful. There were plenty of tables when we got there (1:30pm?). It was my first trip to St. Louis and after my sister-in-law suggested St. Louis Bread Company (a version of Panera/Paradise that I can eat anywhere), I told her "I want something distinctly St. Louis" (as I am wont to do). So off we went to Steve's. I have to admit - I had a very hard time deciding on which dog to get - they offer so many manifestations of the ordinary old dog. Backyard BBQ with beans, potato salad and other stuff; the aforementioned BBJ, and many, many, many others. As much as I truly enjoyed my Bacon Bacon Jamaican, I know I would have loved the plain old dog just as much. The frank itself was substantial and expertly cooked (yes, it's a hot dog... but come back to me after you eat one that's been poorly cooked). It had a rich, smoky flavor to it that can only be gotten one way - by being cooked on a grill. Can't wait to go back - my brother's review below captures most of my sentiments... and he's someone I consider a dog Connoisseur, having lived in Chicago for over a decade.

Specialty hot dog joints will, until a new king is found, be forever compared to Dirty Franks in Columbus and the Chicago Dog House. Sean and I were quite excited to try this place after hearing good things from the locals. I had the mac & cheese dog which came with some bacon bits (real) on top. Sean wanted to try the Molotov dog but they were out of the sauce - bummer. So instead he had the Aye Chihuahua which is a chorizo sausage. Sean really enjoyed his and I was satisfied with mine. The mac and cheese was actually pretty good and we both really like the hoagie style buns - they hold together much better than normal hot dog buns. I personally can't say 5 stars because for me, the hot dog itself was too much. I like a more balanced meat:toppings ratio and for me it was too much meat. Also the smokiness of the dog got old after about 3/4 of the meal. I really liked their bottled beverage selection - get a bottle and a bag of Miss Vickie's Jalapeño chips to round out your combo. Check in with your Yelp app to get a buck off. Nice! Overall, very solid spot to try some gourmet toppings on some good hot dogs. If I was of the ilk who likes giant smokey 1/4 lb hot dogs, I'd probably have given 5 stars, but it just got to be too much for me toward the end. I'd like to come back and try one of the sausage offerings next time. Give Steve's a try and decide for yourself.

Absolutely love this place, even through its about 35 minutes from home! Music is always spot on, and friendly folks. And the hotdogs where do i begin... You could probably try a different one each time and still not try them all. My two go to dogs are the gorilla and the storm tropper! check them out!

Good lord holy moly cheeze-its, this place is delicious. So many different tasty dogs, I personally really enjoy the backyard bbq dog. The staff is mad nice, helpful, and you can tell they really love the product they're pushing. I can't blame them, I love it too. If you check Facebook, you can get a buck off the special of the day with a special codeword.

Steve's is a fun place to eat. Everyone is always friendly and orders come up quick. I've tried the Molotov, Hyahh!, Gorilla and Micho. Gorilla takes the cake so far. Going to try the stormtrooper next time. Saturdays are crazy there now -- I'd recommend going later in the day. The only thing I wish was that they had more hours. At least until 6 or 7 so I could grab some dinner. That's not going to make or break my rating though: most of the small shops on that strip close around that time anyhow. You can also just go to the Tower Grove location ten minutes away which is open late.

Talk about the epitome of cool! Steve Ewing is better known for fronting St. Louis legends The Urge. Honestly, I wouldn't consider myself a die hard fan of the group. However, I've learned to appreciate what they've done more as an adult. However, there's one thing that Steve's done that didn't take any coaxing to appreciate: Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill. I love Steve's Hot Dogs! Frankly, this place is overlooked and underappreciated. Located in the historic Hill, it actually adds to the character and my own appreciation of the area. Ewing offers an array of hot doggery and sausages from all over the region. My personal favorite is the Gorilla Mac n Cheese, a Nathan's hot dog covered with mac & cheese, bacon bits, and French's fried onions. For those with a taste for the spicy, try the Al Hra-Brat-Ski, a smoked Hugarian sausage named after the firey former Cardinal reliever! If you follow them on Facebook, Steve gives a password every day for a discount, and it is always Star Wars related. Personally, that aspect might be my favorite. The first time I used the magic word I got to say it Steve Ewing himself! You have to admit. That's pretty cool. If you officially want to be a citizen of St. Louis, you need to eat at Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill. I'm making it a rite of passage, people!

Few times in my life have I been truly excited to eat a hot dog. Baseball games aside, I can live without hot dogs for awhile. But this place is not just a hot dog restaurant, it's an alternative dining experience. Never before have I had a hot dog (well, in this case, Italian sausage) with pasta, Parmesan, and Alfredo sauce, yet that's what I got here. It tasted amazing, but my girlfriend got something even better: a hot dog with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, and bacon. They were both great, but I recommend you get hers over mine unless you truly want pasta. Atmosphere was awesome, very friendly staff, my receipt got emailed to me which I found convenient. Definitely will be returning when my dad visits later this week.

Nice space in one of St Louis' most iconic neighborhoods. Decent pricing for the dog and the combo ($4.50 for stand-alone dog, about $6-6.50 gets you the dog plus chips and drink). My only problem is the hickory flavor doesn't work for me...at all. For me, the hickory taste was so foreign to any hot dog I have ever tasted that it just didn't work. Even though my dog was smothered in chili, mustard and onions, the pervasive taste of hickory smoke was just too much. I guess I'm just a gas-grilled, open-flame, boiled, or charcoal grilled kinda guy, or maybe I'm too Chicago-styled to appreciate a Nathan's Famous? As all of the dogs are smoked in this manner, I don't think I'll be going back, but if you do like hickory smoke, you're going to like this place. As mentioned previously, there are about 4-6 inside seats or else you'll be taking it on the run, up to Berra Park perhaps, for a picnic lunch.

Went there for lunch today. Two guys were hanging out, grilling hotdogs and were really nice. One of them helped me make my decision. He gave me a toss-up between the chili dog and the mac & cheese dog. I went with the mac and cheese. Tasted great! They have a nice little selection of higher-end sodas, I went with Empire's cream soda. And they've got Zapp's chips as well. I spent $7 and change for a great, filling meal.

When dining in the Hill, I think of chicken marsala, polento, pasta with pesto, fresh warm bread, hot dogs, olive oil, tiramisu, espresso....yes, I wrote hot dog. Steve is on to something here. He is introducing an american favorite to the Hill and he's doing a bang-up job. First off, like most Italian dishes, you get a large portion to the tune of a 1/4 pound of meat. I read some of my Yelp friends, and you know what? Who the heck goes to a hot dog joint to stay healthy? One star extra for keeping it real! When I want good comfort food, I don't want some old slim jim on a bun. Steve serves that meat up right, too! The hot dog is served in it's proper home: a roll. He could go cheap and go with a bun, but if you want that, go to Quicktrip. No buns here. The rolls come fresh across the street from Vitale's Bakery. The menu is large, too. I think most people assume this place is a "Woofies", or some knock-off Chicago place. Wrong. Steve has a master chef, Joe Zeable, who takes a Nathan's hot dog, waves a magic wand, and turns meat into something other-wordly. I can't explain it. I actually opt for the "Madeline" because you really taste what Steve and Joe is really going for. Look, the guy, Joe, produces organically grown garlic as a hobby and does some wicked things with red peppers and onions. His wife bakes some delicious cookies too, using Himalania Pink Salt. The staff is fun and sometimes Steve will sing some of his classic "Urge" tunes on a Saturday night. If there's a Godfather 4, I think that next bloody shoot-up encounter will be followed by this, "Leave the gun, take the Steve's."

I cannot tell you how bad I wanted this place to be good. I was so excited from the Sauce magazine article a few weeks ago, that i literally went the next week for their famous Italian Beef that is supposedly cooked for 3-4 days. End of the day, it was average, ho hum. Obviously, if you have read my other reviews, I am a Nazi when it comes to my opinion and expectations for a sandwich, especially something that is being hailed as the best Italian beef in the city. Guys were nice behind the counter, one of them gave me extra marinated peppers, from his private family stock to add to the sandwich after we had bantered for a while, so that was cool that they tried to be so nice. Service though was not fast....which I don't mind if the deal is great, but this guy smoked no less than 3 bowls of marijuana before his Friday shift. I'm not judging, just reporting my opinions. I do, however, love their location on The Hill. Its right across the street from Vitale's, which is my favorite bakery for bread and should be a goldmine to cater St. Ambrose kids 5-8 grade after school. But here is the thing - I am basically a communist because I am not wild about hot dogs. That seems to be their main attraction, so if you are a hot dog fan, then make sure you come check it out. If you are hoping for an Al's Beef, Portillo's etc type of Italian Beef then run.

Great grilled hot dogs here, with Fazio's buns from across the street. Not Vienna Beef for Chicago dog diehards though, but Nathans. Some of the most inventive topping combos one could ever ask for. They also have small batch sodas. Small place, seating is full at peak times. Note: happy hour Friday afternoon, check on exact times. Definitely worth a visit when jonesing for a really good dog.

The bun was good. Apparently, they are from Vitale's, though. I ordered the veggie dog without banana peppers. It came with banana peppers. The sandwich was relatively tasteless; I could have made better at home. The best thing I consumed here was the soda, which is Empire brand. I wouldn't waste your money coming here.

Occupancy states 18 yet like 25 at tables and another 15 in line so national hot dog day had brought them some business. This was my first time at Steve's and can say my last as well. The hot dogs are better at quick trip and you don't have to wait 20 minutes to get one there. The only positive here is the staff was friendly but that isn't reason to come back. My son got a plain dog with ketchup he didn't care for it but did like the chips lol. I got the molotov which is their version of hot hot which it was hot but not the good hot more like let me dump half a bottle of sirachi on hot.

The Gorilla Mac & Cheese was great! Service was fast and friendly. The place was clean. This is a great Hot Dog joint! I will definitely be back. This is not a fine dining establishment but a Hot Dog joint so don't be expecting linen table cloths! They also have a great soda choice! I had the Ginger Beer soda. It was a bit strong but I liked really liked it.

This is probably one of the best places to get Hot Dogs in St. Louis! A friend took me there to try it and they are really good! They are not like your typical hot dogs they are big, and juicy and fill you up! I would recommend the Chili Cheese and the Gorilla Mac & Cheese (It sounds different but it was really good)! They are reasonably priced as well! Try them out!

Sigh. Another hot dog joint that misses the mark. My biggest complaint - $5 for a Chicago dog. Really?! Yes, it's a Nathan's and yes, it 1/4 pound, but still. I about fainted. On the plus side, the guys making the dogs were really friendly. They have a pretty diverse set of toppings (including 3 types of onions, 2 types of relish and 2 types of mustard - and those choices were just for the Chicago) and everything tasted fresh. There are a handful of tables inside and they give you punchcard so you can earn a free meal. And they have Miss Vickie's chips. The negatives - the price, obviously. They only have canned soda, no fountain drinks. They have those really thin napkins that are used up after one swipe. I think I went through about 10. No poppyseed buns. The 1/4 pound hot dog. Seriously, I know America is obese, but why does no one serve a normal sized hot dog anymore? It's gross. I wasn't completely turned off the hickory taste, but it's definitely noticeable and if I had my choice I'd go without it. Still, it is different.

my wife and i had to school the kid about the difference between gas-station hot dogs and "the real deal". so, we brought him to Steve's the hot dogs were off the friggin' chain!! the wife and kid both had the chilli cheese dog and i went with the special "the storm trooper". everyone loved the food! (the storm trooper gets 5 *'s on its own!) i was going to get the malotav dog. the counter clerk was nice enough to let me sample the chilli pepper sauce. **WARNING** YOUR TONGUE WILL DIAL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!!! were it not for the fact that i didn't want the boy to see a grown man cry i would have ordered it. whew!! we were all critical about the plastic baskets the food is served in. sometimes, due to the generous portions of toppings on the dogs, you need to dig in with a plastic knife and fork. it is difficult negotiating the utensils around the plastic basket and you may end up not just tearing the paper liner but accidentally consuming it. we have no problem using plastic utensils in a deli environment. just, please, put the totally awesome food on a plate so patrons can dive in with more ease. don't worry steve, we will be back!!! oh, and it was difficult finding a seat. the room has an occupancy of 18. with food this good you may want to consider expanding out.

When I heard Steve Ewing opened a hot dog place on the hill, I was dying to get home from Chicago to go. It did NOT disappoint. I brought my immediate family and we each got a different dog. I got the THE "STUROMSKI" (Polish dog w/sauerkraut) and it was beyond delicious. Perfect amount of toppings and the bread was very fresh- baked across the street. The service was so friendly and inviting. The way the staff talked about their recipes showed that a lot of love goes into making their hot dogs! There isn't much seating, but you can't beat the Steve Ewing/Urge music and memorabilia! Steve's Hot Dogs will be a staple to my visits home.

The best dog in STL! A lunch staple at my office, they are one of the only places that will deliver to us and they always do so with a smile! Fast, friendly service and delicious food what more could a girl ask for?

Gotta be the best hot dog joint in the city and brings a slice of diversity to the Hill. It happened to be their 1 year anniversary yesterday and I had the pleasure of listening to Steve Ewing perform live while enjoying an Italian Pit Beef sandwich.

Hot dogs are famously inexpensive to produce. For this reason, it's difficult to really label a hot dog joint a value buy. But that's just what this place is. For relatively little, you can get some very hardy and delicious dogs. I've been browsing GrubHub for about a month and Steve's was the best value and the quickest delivery. I'm not sure if I'm a "hot dog person" or not, but I would definitely recommend this place.

I stopped into Steve's for the first time on Thursday. The shop closes at 3 PM and I rolled in at about 2:50 PM. The entire restaurant was packed and the staff didn't make me feel bad about coming in so closing time. Two people and the owner were working to get the fresh smoked dogs out to customers, no lag time between ordering and service. Wife wanted the STL-Chicago Dog. A smoked St. Louis sausage with all of the traditional CHI Toppings. I opted for Steve's Famous Chili Cheese Dog. The 1/4 pound sausage came piled high with toppings and there is an option for 4 different types of prepared onions. When the staff was asked about their favorite selection, two out of three said The Aye Chihuahua- Chorizo, onions, cilantro, hot peppers, spicy mustard, and avocado. This was a strong choice, but there may have been a bit too much going on. There is a special dog of the day. The joint has delivery (If you have to have hot dogs delivered to you, a therapist or dietitian should be sought). If you "Friend" Steve's on Facebook there is a password for daily specials and/or discounts. The Happy Hour on Friday's gives you half priced Dogs. The Hill is a great St. Louis place to visit. Steve's is another local business where people work hard and turn out a great product. Three specialty Dogs+1 can of Dr. Pepper=$16.11.

Went there for lunch about a month ago with my friend, Jenny B. Steve Ewing is the owner of this place and a member of the band the Urge. Very simple store. There were about 4 tables in the place. A cooler out front where you can grab your favorite drink. The menu is on 2 or 3 chalk boards. We both ordered the same thing, andouille sausage topped with mac & cheese, grilled onions and fried onions. Sounds disgusting, uh. THink again! It was very tasty. The andouille sausage had some kick to it. My friend was sweating bullets down her face. Me, I like things spicy! We had chips and soda with our sausage. Very filling. Will definitely go back. Hopefully, I run into Steve sometime. There hours are not very long. I think that they open around 10 am and close around 3pm. So call ahead and make sure they are ready for you!

This place has unique dogs Star Wars decor; what more do you want? I was also very impressed with how friendly the staff was. I would give it 5 stars, but just can't justify a 5 star hot dog place. But it's definitely the best hot dog place in town.

Had Steve's Hot dogs for the first time today. Guys at work brought some back, they have been raving about them so I figured I would try out a two dog combo. They werent exaggerating, it was fantastic. Got a Gorilla Mac & cheese and a Chili Cheese dog. They were both very good but I think the Gorilla was my favorite. Cant wait to try out more of the items on the menu. Plus the Jalapeño chips I got with the combo were great.
